Planning Permission has been approved for the Knut!

All Systems Go - Planning permission has been approved!

A hut adjacent to the amphitheatre became an essential backstage facility for our Ordinalia productions; when this site was put up for sale in 2004, the Plen Project was set up to secure it as a community resource.

We now own the site , but as the original hut is in a very poor state of repair we have acquired planning permission for a new ‘green’ build, it will provide power, toilets, kitchen and changing facilities as well as storage for theatrical effects, take a look at the plans to find out more. It will also incorporate a small rentable office and meeting room space.

In addition we intend to create an archive display area where local people and visitors can discover for themselves the incredible history surrounding our unique Plen-an-Gwary.

What Now??

The cost of our rebuild complete with fixtures and fittings is approximately £140,000 – we have been busy applying for grants and hope to raise at least £124,000 through these.

We have started a new fundraising campaign to generate match funding, and have re-invigorated our ‘Plen-friends’ scheme.  We are holding a summer prize draw with some fabulous prizes, and we are doing a Patchwork of Paintings sale in the autumn, 100 paintings, some by local artists (some of them famous!) others by children and young people from St Just & Pendeen and from talented supporters of our project.

For £30 people will be able to buy one of a hundred tickets and will win one of the paintings – it will be the luck of the draw which they win. Some of the paintings will be displayed around St Just and on our website a couple of weeks before the draw, and all will be shown in St Just Town Hall on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th Nov. The draw itself will take place on the Sunday 18th.
